r&r is essential for your creative process
We live in a world where frequently what is obvious and socially accepted is often the opposite of what we really need. For instance, in this busy go-getter world, we often feel like we have to keep the whip at our backs and go-go-go; drink coffee, look busy, stay motivated, and above all things, be productive.
But sometimes, doing nothing is the best thing we can do for ourselves. Giving the body and the mind an opportunity to wander and be unpressured can actually give your creative self the juice needed to recharge and get going again.
Sometimes we need this kind of rest as a result of an ending or stress of some kind; a death in the family, the loss a job; retirement. We can be at a loss and get frazzled or we can sink into the need and allow it to envelope us.
Sometimes we just need a little time to stop trying so hard to figure things out. Lying down, closing ones eyes, and drifting off, (also called taking a nap) can refresh the mind and the spirit. Sometimes, as a direct result of redirecting our attention, a great idea or solution can pop into our minds as if from nowhere. Taking a walk can achieve the same results by getting our bodies moving and getting other stimuli from our environment while not concentrating too much on a particular outcome.
However it happens, when we allow time for our brains to relax a little, it’s worth the time expended to feel refreshed.
